Yoth Forum "Youth of Kyrgyzstan for Global Goals"

Enactus Kyrgyzstan referred to UN Youth thematic group to support one day sensitization workshop on Sustainable Development Goals among youth in Osh city.

On 23 September academic leaders from 25 Universities of Batken, Osh, Jalalabad, and Bishkek and TOP leaders with various backgrounds including education, health, sport, business and government participated in TOP to Future TOP youth Forum “Youth of Kyrgyzstan for Sustainable Development” held in Osh city with support of UN Volunteers, UNFPA, Mayor Administration of Osh city, Osh state University and State Agency on Youth, physical activity and Sport under the Government of Kyrgyz Republic.  The main goal of the workshop was sensitization of SDGs and discussion with TOP leaders how Enactus projects can contribute to the localization and implementation of SDGs at grassroots level.

UNV Programme Assistant gave a speech on behalf of UN Volunteers and UNFPA about the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNFPA Youth Specialist, presented SDGs and discussed with young people, how each one of them can contribute to implementation of SDGs starting from today.  TOP leaders and experts invited for a panel session shared their experience and knowledge about different aspects of sustainable development, including importance of gender aspects and meaningful youth participation at all levels. Each participant contributed to the workshop by sharing their understandings of SDGs and relevance to Enactus projects.

In particular, focuses during the workshop were several areas: education, gender, environment, sport, health, business and governance that cover all 17 SDGs. As an output of the workshop, 25 Enactus academic teams will implement business and social projects at community level.

We believe academic leaders in Kyrgyzstan as part of youth are active drivers of change in local communities. They have roles in engaging people at grassroots and in communicating the goals to a wider society. That is why they need to have space and recognition to participate in translation of SDGs agenda into local, national and regional policies, in implementation, monitoring and review, and holding governments accountable.

Students can fulfill their roles — and that way make the most effective transformation of the world into a better place for all.
