Brief Project Description: The overall objective of the Project is to strengthen the promotion and protection of human rights in Central Asia that is, to contribute towards stabilization and conflict prevention.
The Project’s Workplan relates primarily to Kyrgyzstan with some activities planned in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
Specific Project objectives:
· Support Kyrgyzstan with implementation of recommendations relating to rule of law and stability from reports of Kyrgyzstan Inquiry Commission (KIC), UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (HC) and Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in conjunction with those of Treaty Bodies (TB) and Special Procedure (SP) Mandate Holders.
· Promote the stability benefits of effective mechanisms for redress and respect for the rule of law.
· Prevent the escalation of ethnic tensions and human rights violations through monitoring, advocacy, research, analysis, policy review and advancing the rights of minorities in Central Asia.
· Support national authorities to address and alleviate inter-ethnic tensions and those caused by housing, land and property (HLP) issues, building up mid- and long-term national capacity in this regard.
